The Bemidji State 1978-79 hockey team captured its sixth NAIA national title to cap a 27-2-0 season. Captained by Mike Gibbons, Tom Heaviland and Scott Currie, the team set a program record for assists in a season (351) that still stands today. After three consecutive national semifinal appearances without a title, BSU emerged victorious again in 1979 defeating Concordia College (Minn.) 5-1 in the championship game held in St. Paul, Minn.
