Rickie "Rick" Engh graduated from BSU in 1973 with a degree in physical education and health. While at BSU Rick was a four year letter winner in wrestling. He was selected team captain in 1970, was a two time BSU Open champion and had a career record of 75-14-1 with 25 career falls. In 1970, Rick held the BSU record for the most wins with 73, the most pins with 34, the most points with 301 and the most points in one year with 76. He was conference champion in 1967, 68 and 69 and was a four time national place winner, earning him honors as a four time All American and placing him in the NAIA Wrestling Hall of Fame. Rick scored a total of 53 points at the national tournament over four years of participation. He received the prestigious Gorriaran Trophy in 1970, which is presented to the national tournament participant with the most falls in the least amount of time. Following graduation, Rick spent two years in the Army earning the Combat Medical Badge, the Air Medal and the Bronze Star while serving in Vietnam. Rick taught and coached at Fosston High School for two years and served as the wrestling coach, assistant girls track coach and the 8th grade football coach. He then moved to the Metro area and served as the assistant wrestling coach at Cooper High School for two years. Rick now works in construction and lives in Plymouth, Minn. with his wife Kristi Synsteby. He has two grown children.
