Jim Walrath was a four-year track and field team member; Former BSU record holder for the 1,000 yard and 6-mile runs; Member of 4x880-yard and distance medley relay record teams; Team Captain '71; Most Valuable Athlete '71; Pat Coburn Award Winner '71; Nominee for BSU Athlete of the Year '71; Four-year cross country team member; Team Captain '70; NAIA District 13- 16th Place; Co-Most Valuable Athlete '70; Five-time recipient of Excellence in Education Award; Coached 43 seasons in track and field, cross country, football, and basketball at Chippewa Falls High Schools at Seneca, Wisconsin and Hendrum, Minnesota; Coached Hendrum to undefeated football season and state playoff berth in 1972; Coached two individual state champions in track and field; Developed the distance program that led to 2 runner-up team titles and 8 state meet team entries in cross country; Began the Chippewa Falls Middle School cross country program; Developed a Jr. Olympic track and field program which had three state age group team championships and 4 individual national qualifiers; Originated the Chippewa Valley Track Club and coached for 17 years; Lead designer for a new physical education program at the Chippewa Falls Middle School; Designed Driver Education programs for the Vocational - Technical Adult program and the Chippewa Falls High School, 1977- '81, '92; Instituted a developmental intramural program at Seneca High School; Regional Coordinator for Track and Field Junior Olympics; Active in multiple community youth and human service organizations.
