Joseph and Janice Lueken, owners of the Lueken’s grocery chain, have been steadfast supporters of Bemidji State University athletics and the University as a whole. Always loyal Beaver fans, Joe and Jan funded the replacement of the BSU Gymnasium floor when they learned that players were experiencing injuries on the old court floors. Then through the Joseph and Janice Lueken Family Foundation, they made a substantial gift to furnish the weight training facilities and other amenities of the Bemidji State University hockey wing at the Sanford Center. In addition, they have been long-time supporters of BSU student-athletes through annual Beaver Pride contributions and through the establishment of athletic scholarship endowments. They have also been equally generous to the rest of the campus, funding endowments for academic and American Indian scholarships. Joe passed away in 2014.
