Jim Thompson was a member of the BSU hockey team from 1962-66; Captain 1965-1966; Held BSU hockey scoring record, 1962-1966; Held long time BSU career scoring record; Taught at West Anchorage High School, Anchorage, Alaska, where he also coached the High School Hockey team which won the state championship; Coached Hockey at Rainy River Community College, International Falls, which won the state championship; Served as recreational director and teacher for City of Brainerd; Started youth hockey in the City of Brainerd; Organized the summer youth hockey program in International Falls; Served on the Boards of Directors of International Falls Hockey Association and Little League Baseball; Served as World PeeWee/Bantam Director; Member of Ice Hockey Officials Association of Referees and refereed high school and college hockey games in Northern Minnesota for 15 years; Member of Professional Directors of National, Minnesota and Northern Minnesota Parks and Recreational Associations; Most recently served as the Recreation Director for International Falls Schools; Active in multiple community youth, sports and church organizations; Member of the Bemidji State University Foundation.
