A six-time letter winner on the track, Cristy Risberg competed in both indoor and outdoor track and field for the Beavers from 1993-96. She earned the first two of her seven event conference championships in 1994. That same season she advanced to the national finals in the long jump and high jump earning NCAA All-American honors in the high jump with a leap of 5-feet-8 ½ inches. She repeated as the NSIC champion in both events the following indoor season and finished as runner-up in the triple jump. As a captain of the team in 1996, she again won the NSIC outdoor long jump title and was selected as BSU’s Most Valuable Player. As a multi-event athlete, she claimed the NSIC heptathlon crown and finished her career as a member of BSU’s conference champion 4x100-meter relay team. Her career best of 4,528 in the heptathlon ranks her fifth in the BSU women’s track and field record books. She remains a BSU record holder in three events with leaps of 19-feet, 6 ¾-inches in the long jump, 5-feet, 8 ½-inches in the high jump, both outdoors, and 18-feet 9 ¾-inches in the indoor long jump, all set in 1994.
