A 1977 graduate of BSU, Warren Mertens was a member of the BSU Baseball Team from 1973 to 1977. He continues to hold the team records for single season ERA of 1.37, career ERA of 2.32; and career strikeouts by a pitcher with 124. Warren is second All-time in career victories with 10, and second All-time in single season home runs with 10. Warren signed professionally with the Minnesota Twins in 1977. He played at Elizabethon, Tenn. in the Rookie League, and in Class AA at Orlando in 1978 and 1979. Warren is currently the Head Baseball Coach at Central Lakes College in Brainerd, where his team took third place at the state tournament after his third year of coaching. He was named to the Dispatch All-Century Team in Baseball in 1999.
