Al Westerlund was a member of the BSU baseball team from 1946-49; Member of BSU football team 1945-46; Member of BSU basketball team 1945-46; Member of BSU boxing team in 1947; Played 13 seasons of state amateur baseball; Selected as most valuable player under 21 years of age in the Upper Mississippi Valley Baseball League by the American Baseball Congress; Participated in tryouts with the Minneapolis Millers and Boston (now Atlanta) Braves; Selected for numerous all-star squads; Taught industrial arts and physical education at Brooten High School 1950-'58 where he also served as athletic director and coached football and baseball; Taught Industrial Arts at Richfield High School 1959-'60; Started and directed summer recreation program; Served as district delegate for the Minnesota State High School League; Served as President of the District Coaches' Association; Founded Westerlund Insurance Agency, 1960; Served in WW II; Very active in community youth and human service organizations; Member of the Bemidji State University Foundation.
