A 1957 graduate of BSU, Don Otness was a member of the BSU Men's Basketball Team from 1953 to 1957. He served as team co-captain in the 1956-57 season, and was honorable mention all-conference that season, averaging 12 Points per game. Don was also a member of the BSU Track Team from 1955 to 1957. Now retired, Don taught high school for 35 years in Illinois, coaching basketball for 25 years six of those at New Athens High School with a best record of 26-2. His tenure at Belleville East High School in Illinois included one trip to the state tournament, seven regional championships, six invitational tourney championships, and a best season record of 23-4. Two of his former players are now in the NBA, playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Seattle Super-Sonics.
